Microscopic (visible only under the microscope)
Macroscopic (visible to the naked eye)
Who should be referred to a urologist?
New Macro/Microscopic haematuria (After excluding UTI, menstruation, pseudo-haematuria)
Persistent haematuria 3 years after previous urologic evaluation.
What commonly causes haematuria?
False/pseudo haematuria (exercise, haemolytic anaemia, obstructive jaundice, beetroot, nitrofurantoin)
Inflammation/infection
Stones
Enlarged prostate
Cancer (bladder, ureter, kidney)
